Join our 25th Anniversary
Institute for New Grantmakers designed to introduce newcomers to the nuts and bolts, finance and legal aspects of grantmaking work.
Led by field experts, you will learn the core competencies of grantmaking practice, ethical decision-making and foundation stewardship. These two hour sessions present the most comprehensive newcomer training available, and offer extensive opportunities to interact with national field experts.
Specifically designed for program officers and other grantmaking staff, trustees and executive staff are invited to attend. Plan to attend the Institute for New Grantmakers and you will:
- learn about grantmaking;
- speak with experts in a small, collegial setting; and
- network with program officers from other foundations.
This intensive two-day workshop offers valuable insights into:
- The nature of foundation work and the infrastructure of the philanthropic field
- New trends and philanthropic best practices
- The fine points of foundation stewardship and accountability.
Participants Will Learn How To Do the Following:
- Manage your grants with effective workload and proposal review techniques
- Analyze and evaluate grantee financial statements
- Incorporate effective evaluation methods into your everyday work
- Understand legal guidelines for program officers
- Create and maintain working relationships with grantees.
New Grantmakers Will Do the Following:
- Become familiar with the principles and practices of grantmaking
- Understand the world of philanthropy
- Meet grantmakers who share similar issues and challenges
- Take home resources that will assist you in your everyday work
- Acquire skill-building tools to reduce grantmaking cycle time and increase effectiveness.
