Eligibility Policy

The Family Foundation Conference is primarily intended for donors, trustees and staff of family foundations, and staff and donor advisors of community foundations and other grantmaking organizations.

Conference registration is open to all members of the Council on Foundations

Individuals representing family foundations, community foundations or other grantmaking organizations that are not members of the Council on Foundations may attend the Family Foundation Conference at the non-member registration rate once eligibility is confirmed by the Council. Please submit a copy of your foundation’s IRS determination letter and your latest Form 990-PF with your registration form.

Independent donors who do not have their own foundations and those with funds in national gift funds or other public charities are also welcome to attend the conference at the non-member registration rate. Annual giving must be greater than $25,000 per year. Please include a letter indicating the nature of your giving and your estimated annual giving amount with your registration form. Conference attendance is not guaranteed until the Council confirms eligibility.

Advisors, staff members of banks or trust companies that manage family foundations, and consultants to family foundations may register if they are attending at the request of a family foundation. If you are representing a member of the Council on Foundations, the member registration rate will apply. The sponsoring family foundation must write a letter to accompany the registration form stating that the prospective registrant is attending on its behalf. Such attendees must register under the name of the sponsoring family foundation or fund.

New Foundations

The Family Foundation Conference is an important meeting ground for family foundations, and we want to hear the voices of new foundations! As part of our Building Strong and Ethical Foundations: Doing It Right program, we’re offering a special half-price registration and half-price membership dues rate to non-member new foundations. For specific eligibility information and more details, please contact the Council’s membership department at membership@cof.org or 202/467-0291.

Non-Members Of The Council On Foundations

Non-members should not make travel arrangements until the Council confirms eligibility. Submission of requested documents does not guarantee eligibility to attend the Family Foundation Conference. Eligibility questions should be addressed to the Council’s Membership Services staff at 202/467-0463 or membership@cof.org.
